isms -sexism

One of the primary and certainly more predominant ‘isms’ in the ‘ism-world’ is sexism. Sexism is not only of such convoluted predominance in our society overall that it seems inextricably intricated and unavoidable, especially in terms of public process (work, school, public gatherings, etc…). Sexism can include (but is not limited to) sexual discrimination (making a decision which negatively impacts another based on sexual premise), sexual favourtism (esteeming one biological sex to be better merely because of being that sex), sexually based ignorance (making invalid assessments based on stereotypes formulated from ignorance or lack of knowledge).

Sexism is a very complicated kernel to analyze, predominantly and often due to the nature of effecting all races, creeds, orientations and backgrounds in some respect or another. Examples of sexism can include “unwantedly trying to attract an overnight partner at a bar”, “not letting a sibling join in with a sports game” and “refusing to hire an employee merely because of their biological sex”. Globally, corporate structures often tend to favour male managers and male executives corroborating decision with concepts like “a female will end up getting pregnant and have to take time off” or”females lack sufficient firmitude to deal with important management decisions”.

Sexism is often more of a crutch to lean on than anything else. It is often the case that an individuals ignorance or small mindedness that results in overtly and unfavourable sexist decisions. Rationally, it is neither sane nor fair to expect anyone and everyone to either compete or perform at that same exact level. A firefighting team for example will tend to have more males than females, likely due to a proportionate probability of more men trying to become firefighters; this does not provide however, that the required standards or pay should be any different for a male or female.
